About Kevin Robinson
Toronto employment lawyer, Kevin Robinson is a partner at Robinson Heeney LLP. He has been acting as a strong advocate for his clients in the area of labour and employment law since his call to the bar in 1999.
Kevin represents employers in both unionized and non-unionized settings and also regularly acts on behalf of employees. Kevin also works extensively in the area of workplace respect and provides awareness training and is regularly retained to conduct independent workplace investigations.
Kevin’s interest in employment and labour law was first sparked by his economics professor’s stories about arbitrating and adjudicating workplace issues. He became intrigued with the idea of managing the workplace in a way that would benefit the daily lives of both employers and employees.
Kevin has spent his legal career attempting to promote that idea. He articled with, and then joined, the labour and employment department of a prominent Toronto law firm where he practiced for several years. He then joined the federally-regulated Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as legal counsel responsible for labour and employment issues, where he dealt with a wide diversity of employment issues. During his tenure at the CBC, Kevin learned that in order to be effective and valuable, a lawyer must take into account the business realities of the particular work environment. After his time with the CBC, Kevin returned to private practice with a boutique employment law firm where he expanded his practice and developed a particular expertise in the area of conducting independent workplace investigations and providing training in the area of investigations and workplace respect.
Kevin is a frequent speaker and lecturer on employment law issues. He has spoken on a variety of topics for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Institute, the Human Resources Professionals Association, Osgoode Hall Law School and Queen’s University. He has served as a member of the Council of the Ontario Bar Association and the executive of its Labour and Employment Law section. He was appointed by the Attorney General of Ontario to the Council of the Ontario Association of Architects for a term between 2006 and 2008. Kevin has successfully completed courses in Intensive Trial Advocacy and on the Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation and in 2008 graduated with his Master of Laws degree in Labour and Employment from Osgoode Hall Law School.
As of 2013, Kevin is the author of the employment law chapters of CCH’s Ultimate Corporate Counsel Guide.
Outside of law, Kevin goes to too many music concerts, doesn’t travel often enough and remains an unrepentant fan and supporter of CBC radio.
